Day of the Circassian Flag: Between Memory, Diaspora, and Global Unity
On April 25, 2026, Circassian communities worldwide will once again celebrate the Day of the Circassian (Adyghe) Flag — a date that goes far beyond a symbolic holiday and becomes an important space for collective memory, self-determination, and cultural continuity.
Established in the Republic of Adygea in 2010 on the initiative of the “Adyghe Khase” movement, this day has gradually acquired global significance, uniting Circassians both in their historical homeland and within the widespread diaspora formed as a result of the tragic events of the 19th century.
Today, the Circassian flag is not just a state and national symbol, but also a visual code of historical memory associated with the loss of homeland, displacement, and the preservation of identity beyond the geographical borders of the Caucasus. Honoring it becomes an act of cultural affirmation and a reminder of the continuity of historical experience.
The Geography of Memory: From Turkey to the USA
In 2026, celebratory events span various regions, demonstrating how the diaspora preserves and reimagines a shared cultural foundation.
To date, the following mass events have been announced in honor of the Day of the Circassian Flag:

The Çerkes Kültür Evi cultural center will host an event titled “Under Our Flag — Into the Light of the Future”, emphasizing the connection between historical heritage and forward-looking aspirations. The focus will be on a cultural program and community interaction.

The Flag as a Space of Unity
Despite geographical separation, such events demonstrate the resilience of cultural ties and the diaspora’s ability to forge a unified symbolic space. In this context, the Circassian flag serves not only as a mark of identity but also as an instrument of collective unity, allowing the overcoming of borders between states and generations.
