Sataney-guasha

The Narts believed that some children are born with innate magical abilities and could recognize such a talent by certain external signs.

In the Nart epic, the central place is occupied by a powerful and authoritative female magician – Sataney-guasha. The Narts turn to her for advice, recognizing her wisdom and extraordinary intelligence.

She is distinguished not only by her intelligence, but also by her outstanding beauty. She is the mother of the main character of the epic Saucyrko and served as a model of a woman-mother for many generations of mothers.

Among modern Circassians (Kabardians, Adygeans, Shapsugs), one of the four cult days of the solar calendar is called – the summer solstice on June 22, and also the plant Labaznik or Meadowsweet is also called Sataney in Circassian.
